Paul :

Slam are a rock duo catering for an audience who know that boy bands need a good kicking. We like to play loud and are mostly lost in the Seventies (when men were men).
We do cater for more youthful tastes with a bit of Oasis, Nirvana, Offspring, Alanis and even ex-boy Robbie Williams, but mostly we like to pretend it's still 1973 with Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Queen etc.
Of course Bryan Adams and Tina Turner are covered
... where would pub rock be without them.

A Bit of History :

Jan and I met at a studio in London where we had both been working on separate projects. Jan had been doing vocals for a songwriter who's credits included a British Eurovision winner for Emma called 'Give A Little Love Back To The World' (snappy title). I had played guitar on this track and despite (or because of) it being a thinly disguised rip-off of Foreigner's
'I Wanna Know What Love Is', it stayed in the British charts for six weeks. However it was not the aforementioned writer who got us together but the owner of the studio, Ian.
Despite this he remains a good friend to this day.

Initially we worked on original material together, eventually securing a deal through Warner Brothers with the aid of our then manager Doug Smith (Hawkwind, Motorhead, ChumbaWumba..). We then worked with Adrian Lee (Mike and the Mechanics, Toyah..) on keyboards, Gary Wallis (Pink Floyd, Tom Jones..) on drums and Nigel Roth-Scott (Reflex..) on bass, in some of England's best studios. The highlight was penning and performing 'Trust', the theme to 'Highlander II'.

After the demise of the Warners situation we spent 5 months in LA just hangin' out man. It's a Rock 'n Roll place and we loved it. Only in LA can you find guys wearing shorts and cowboy boots (at the same time you understand). Upon our return to the tropical paradise that is London we created 'Slam'. Since then (except for a couple of longish stays in Australia - my homeland) we've gigged consistently around North London and have picked up a good and much appreciated following.
Doubtless, the only people looking at this site.

While gigging as 'Slam' we began recording an album on a 24 track analogue setup we had at home. We were able to mix this album with mix specialist Rafe McKenna (Richard Marx, Bad Company, Foreigner..) at 'The Hit Factory' London. The album featured both programmed drums and the playing of Steve Alexander (Duran Duran, Bonnie Tyler..)
and Jamie Lane (Tina Turner, Mark Knopfler..).
Have I dropped enough names yet?
Anyway, if you've got this far you have a high boredom threshold.

The album was eventually released in Germany under the name 'Gaia'
and was supported with appearances in Germany
and headlining a festival in Poland.
